“I have known and played with Shailendra for many years and he is a highly competitive player. He dedicated his life to raising money for and representing the national team. There is no one better to lead this mission to bring home another World Cup for India.”
2 Dec 2019. For Immediate Release
He has secured his place in history books as the ‘Cricketer of the Century’, he was the captain of India’s winning 1983 Cricket World Cup Team, and Ranveer Singh is portraying him on the big screens in just a few months time, but living legend Kapil Dev still found the time to send ‘good luck’ wishes to dear friend, Shailendra Singh, who is about to set his own milestone in cricket history.
In their first ever entry to the 2020 Over 50s Cricket World Cup, Shailendra Singh has been selected to captain the Indian Team in their very own search for glory. Kapil Dev feels this golden opportunity for India to showcase its steadfast talent is completely in the hands of the most capable man.
Kapil Dev says, “I have known and played with Shailendra for many years and he is a highly competitive player. He dedicated his life to raising money for and representing the national team. There is no one better to lead and be at the forefront of this mission to bring home another World Cup for India.”
Ajoy Roy, the President of India Over 50s Cricket says, “You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.” And that’s exactly what the Indian Team hopes to do in their first showing against eleven other countries from 7 – 25 March, 2020.
But that doesn’t faze Shailendra. He say, “I’ve captained Bombay Gym for 15 years, I represented the entire ’83 team during their streak and I’ve played against the greats in county cricket in England and Scotland. I’m excited for the chance to lead India in it’s World Cup effort and, along with Ajoy Roy, hope to bring the cup back to India and make the entire nation proud.”
